I recognize that it will just come back even if I smoke.
So I don't smoke.

Put on some good smelling scent - especially
hand lotion and spend a long time rubbing it
in and reminding yourself how good you smell.

Put a sign on your screen saver:

Put on some music and relax or dance.

Get on the computer and go to a relaxing
insightful site.

Reach for a notebook and pen.

Call a friend.

Have pictures or a video handy of what cigarettes
are made of and what it does to you.

Get up and go into another room and do something.

Brush your teeth (carry a travel brush and toothpaste)

Suck on cinnamon sticks

Sing as bad as you can the dumbest song you know.
It'll give you the giggles.

Go buy yourself a reward for not smoking.

Take a long hot bath - I haven't found
an easy way to smoke with wet hands!!!!!

Knit, crochet, type, spin, weave, fingerpaint,
anything to give the hands something else to do.

Say to yourself "First I'm going to do ______,
then I'll think about it." By the time you've finished,
the urge has passed.

Suck on sugar-free mints or hard candies.

Run-in-place.

Do 15 to 25 jumping jacks.

Clean out a closet.

Go for a bike ride.

Mend some clothes (sew on buttons, iron on a patch).

Organize a chest of drawers.
